NJSA General Counsel, Marc Freedman, had previously given NJSA members advice with regard to new salary requirements that would increase the minimum salary payable to exempt employees from $455 per week to $921 per week ($47,892 annually).
A federal judge on November 22 blocked an Obama administration rule to extend mandatory overtime pay to more than 4 million workers from taking effect, imperiling one of the outgoing president's signature achievements for boosting wages.
U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant in Sherman, Texas, agreed with 21 states and a coalition of business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that the rule is unlawful and granted a motion for a nationwide injunction. It is to take effect December 1.
The rule would have doubled to $47,500 the maximum salary a worker can earn and still be eligible for mandatory overtime pay.
NJSA members may wish to suspend any new compensation plans pending final resolution.

Impact of 2016 Election on Employer/Employee Issues
Law Day VI, February 8, 2017

According to many economists, three of the biggest issues facing employers across the country are minimum-wage, paid family leave, and labor policy reform.  At the New Jersey state level, these issues continue to be at the forefront of the Assembly and Senate.
NJSA Law Day VI, scheduled for February 8 at the Eisenhower Conference Center in Livingston will focus on both the state and federal issues impacting staffing post-2016 election.  Keynote and workshop topics will include Department of Labor presentations, insurance compliance, and what not to do when audited!

Registration materials will be out in December but mark your calendar for February 8.

Our mission is to be the advocate for the success and growth of NJSA members and the New Jersey staffing industry through leadership in legislation, education, ethics and professional business practices.
