1.  Paid Sick Leave Legislation is Up for a Vote in the State Senate on Monday!  Send an email to your Senator!

The NJSA wants to thank you for all your efforts so far on the Paid Sick Leave bill (S785), but the fight isn't over yet. In a shocking twist of events, the Senate has decided to add the bill to the agenda for a vote this
Monday, June 29th.

Every staffing firm owner and manager needs to contact your elected representatives (again, even if you just communicated with him/her!) and share with them your concerns over the bill, its lack of clarity and the real impact it will have directly on your business, and NJ's economy. Urge them to vote NO on the current bill even with its recent amendments. If passed by the legislature, NJSA's focus have to shift to Governor Christie.

NJSA asks its members to once again send an email AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to their Assembly and Senate representatives indicating your hope that the legislature does not approve this expensive and economically harmful legislation. Legislators need to hear from their local staffing firms!

Send them an email THIS MORNING!

RE: S-785 (Concerns earned sick leave)

I understand the full Senate is scheduled to consider S-785 at meeting on Monday June 29, 2015. I am _____________(job title) of ____________ (your firm's name) located in ___________, New Jersey (your town/city).  We are a staffing firm that __________________ (a sentence or two about your firm, especially size of firm in terms of employees and length of time in the community).

I respectfully request that you vote against approval of this bill. This bill hurts New Jersey's competitiveness and economic recovery by making our state less attractive for private business investment and job growth.  Furthermore, the state should not (and local cities and towns as well) be in the business of legislating fringe benefit programs for New Jersey business of any size.

Increasing my firm's administrative and operating costs, especially for a staffing firm, has to slow down not only my firm's growth rate but also our clients'.

The New Jersey Staffing Alliance has issued a Position Paper on this legislative proposal, joining other business organizations in New Jersey opposing approval.  Please consider seriously their comments and concerns. They care about the future of the state and their citizens as well.  Remember businesses like mine are the source of please value the creators of private employment growth in your deliberations.

Respectfully submitted,

2.  Legislature Passes Bill on Thursday that will increase Workers Compensation Expense for all Private, but not Public, Employers

The Assembly voted and passed S929 on Thursday, June 25, 2015. This bill had already passed in the Senate. NJSA and other business associations are now going to have to work to persuade Governor Christie to veto this bill and hope that the Legislature will not override his veto. NJSA will provide its members in a Monday Morning Memo article soon the reasons why the staffing industry is opposed to the Governor's signing this bill.

The NJSA Legal Legislative Committee is working hard to keep you informed!
