LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

A-2534 - "Concerns New Employer Reporting Requirements"

NJSA's Legislative Committee has prepared two documents for the owners and managers of New Jersey's staffing firms on this new legislation being proposed by Assemblyman DeAngelo. Click here for a one page document describing the impact this legislation would have on your firm and click here for a copy of the position paper that NJSA has forwarded to Assemblyman DeAngelo (from Hamilton NJ representing District 14) and the Assembly Labor Committee.  The Assembly Labor Committee considered and released without any changes the bill at a committee meeting last Thursday, May 19th.  NJSA will be now sending this position paper to the rest of the Assembly and the Governor's Office.  The bill in its original form is totally unworkable for the staffing industry.

Note that Assemblyman DeAngelo is from District 14  (Cranbury, East Windsor, Hamilton, Hightstown, Jamesburg, Monroe, Plainsboro, Robbinsville, Spotswood).  If a staffing firm owner or manager is from this district, please contact Pat Koziol at NJSA (patk@njsa.com or 973-283-0072) to discuss a possible meeting with the Assemblyman.

NJSA's Legislative Committee will continue to keep you updated on this and other important legislative proposals.

Small business owners and organizational leaders are often seeking the right mix of tools and tactics to implement marketing strategies. Between Facebook, Twitter, Email Marketing, and several other platforms, it can become overwhelming to make a selection. It is widely known that individuals are spending more time on mobile devices and consuming content on social media like never before. It's important to understand and know where your ideal audience is consuming information, and how to target them.

This session will help make sense of the noise. Today we're going to show you how to make the most of the combination of digital offerings for your business. When the session is done you'll have a greater understanding of marketing tactics, goals and objectives. You'll learn what a "campaign" is and what to write about and offer in that campaign.  You'll be given some simple but powerful tips of how to get your messages opened and read, shared and socially visible.  And you'll see that there are some great tools you can use to help engage with your existing customers and supporters as well as expand your reach to new prospects. Throughout the session you'll be given opportunities to capture your own ideas and build out the framework of your own "next great campaign."  So join us and start to build a plan that will help you grow your business by eliciting the responses you want from your customers or supporters.

Effectively Passing the Blame: A Look at Contractual Obligations & Liability Requirements - Part Two

Is your staffing company transferring risk to the right parties?  Are you assuming uninsured liabilities via your contracts?  More specifically, do you know how indemnification provisions can trigger coverage under various liability policies?

If you're not paying close attention to your contracts' provisions, your company could be in hot water in the event of a large claim.

This panel of insurance and legal experts will give you a better understanding of:
  • How contractual indemnity provisions may or may not trigger insurance coverage;
  • Vertical or horizontal exhaustion of limits and satisfying liability requirements in a contract;
  • Additional insured, waiver of subrogation, and alternate employer requirements and how they dovetail with the coverage form;
  • Challenges behind VMS contracts and their downstream insurance requirements and indemnification provisions;
  • Why purchasing cyber liability insurance to satisfy contractual provisions may still leave you exposed.
Panelists:  Martin Borosko, Managing Member, Becker LLP, Timothy Szuhaj, Partner, Becker LLP Kurt Murray, Principal, Assurance and Kerri Quigley, risk Management Consultant for Staffing, Assurance
