Statewide Paid Sick Leave Update
The State Legislature is now in its traditional "lame duck" session as the 2014-2015 legislative session ends. We are all in an "at risk" period as special interest groups strive to get passage of their bills through before they have to start all over with a new Legislature in January 2016. NJSA is concerned about the proposed Statewide Paid Sick Leave proposal (S785) and its Assembly version (A2354). Both need final passage and concurrence prior to being sent to the Governor for signature.
NJSA - along with most of NJ's business associations - has worked hard to convince the Senate and Assembly that the current proposed bill would not be positive for NJ's businesses and the state's job growth. NJSA has issued a Position Paper stating its views (click here
for the Position Paper).
Both the Senate President and Assembly Speaker continue to push for passage of this bill, so the threat of Statewide Paid Sick Leave being sent to the Governor's desk before year-end is still a real possibility.
What NJSA and You Can Do:
NJSA's Legislative Committee will continue to press state legislators and their staff to not support statewide Paid Sick Leave (S785 and A2354), even in its amended form.
You, however, need to contact your legislator over the next few days and let them know you and your firm are opposed to a Paid Sick Leave ordinance in your community. NJSA has prepared a draft letter/ email that you are encouraged to modify and use. Click here
to find your legislators. Do it this week please!
Thank you for helping us effectively impact the legislative process in Trenton!
